BOOTY MOVEMENT COALITION – Improvisational Funk & Jazz - Typhanie Monique is versed in a wide range of genres and influences including jazz, funk, hip-hop, pop and improvised freestyle, the soulful-voiced chanteuse, bandleader and songwriter has earned a reputation as a fearless boundary-crosser and a natural born frontwoman with superb scatting chops and well-honed emcee skills. With Booty Movement Coalition, Typhanie leads the very hip band. BMC is a hot jazz/funk band that will soon create quite a wave of energy throughout the country.
DAVID ORNETTE CHERRY The son of avant-garde jazz / world music legend Don Cherry, David Ornette Cherry is making his own very unique mark in the music world. David writes, arranges and improvises invigoratingly fresh and thick, sweet-textured jazz and world music. Whether performing with his quintet, Organic Roots, or presenting his Ensemble for Improvisors, the melodies that arise from David’s jazz, classical, African, world music background speak of our human experiences through the language of sound. CALABRIA FOTI (Jazz Vocalist) & BOB McCHESNEY (Jazz Trombonist) Jazz Standards and American Songbook – Sultry vocalist Calabria Foti presents “A Lovely Way To Spend An Evening” gleaning her material from the best of the Great American Songbook. Legendary singer Johnny Mathis says, “…Calabria Foti’s voice is some of the most beautiful and artistic music I have ever heard…” Also a gifted violinist, songwriter/ arranger, Ms. Foti scats, swings and charms her way into your hearts. “…one of the best recordings I’ve ever heard!” (Johnny Mandel), “…She’s a treasure!” (Jorge Calandrelli) are just some of the accolades Calabria has received for her vocal work. Performing with her husband, jazz trombonist Bob McChesney, this is an evening you will long remember!
Known world wide for his technical virtuosity and harmonic creativity, “Bob McChesney’s quick witted maneuvers and soul searching delivery are flat-out mesmerizing!” (All About Jazz.com) Renowned jazz clarinetist Eddie Daniels has said, “some of the best jazz playing I’ve heard”. The International Trombone Journal wrote, “…hearing McChesney is like hearing the trombone being played for the first time!” When teamed together, you’re in for an evening of fun musical entertainment at its highest level. TAMM E HUNT (Jazz/blues vocalist) Tamm E. Hunt has been an important force in the jazz community, both as a singer and behind the scenes. In her childhood she sang with a variety of R&B girl groups and had some commercial success in the early '80s singing disco, but then switched to jazz. Inspired by Betty Carter, Sarah Vaughan, and pianist Dorothy Donegan, Hunt sang with such notables as Gary Bartz, Clifford Jordan, Ronnie Matthews, Larry Willis, Buster Williams, and T.S. Monk, among others. She has performed throughout the U.S. in addition to Europe, Canada, and Japan. Hunt has thus far recorded one CD, Live @ Birdland, for her New Jazz Audience label. Hunt also founded the Harlem Jazz Foundation, written jazz education programs, and starred and produced in the off-Broadway show Billie Holiday: The Legend. In Baltimore, she has been the executive/artistic director of the Maryland Center for the Preservation of Jazz & Blues.
KATISSE (Composer/Band Leader - Flute/Tenor Sax/Soprano Sax/Spoken Word) - Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist Katise Buckingham is an all original blend of jazz, hip-hop, pop & world music. Upon hearing Katisse as a guest soloist with the LA Guitar Quartet Allan Kozinn of The New York Times described him as, "...a flutist whose ornate improvisations transformed this vocal score into a virtuosic instrumental work".
Katisse has performed and/or recorded with Yellowjackets, Prince, Dr. Dre, Airto & Flora Purim, Herbie Hancock, Andy Summers, B-Sharp Jazz Quartet and many others. He has played on numerous films (including the "jazz flute" scene in the Will Ferrell film, Anchorman).
While staying as a busy freelance musician (based in Los Angeles) Katisse has his own self titled group, performing regularly at The Baked Potato and Seven Grand. His debut album, lyricle worker was recorded and co-produced by engineering legend, Tony Sheppard (Kenny Loggins, Take 6, Whitney Houston).
LAWRENCE LEBO (Vocalist/Composer/Bandleader – Jazz/Western Swing/Blues) – Lawrence Lebo straddles the boundaries of traditional American Roots music, with vocals extraordinaire! Lawrence says, “I would describe myself as a Blues singer/songwriter with Jazz and Western Swing sensibilities! Her debut EP Don’t Call Her Larry, Vol. 1 garnered rave international reviews, college airplay, live performances on such stations as KCRW and KPCC, and live performances sharing the bill with such artists as Bobby Bradford. The EP's success got the attention of National Public Radio who featured Ms. Lebo on the Weekend Edition show, hosted by Liane Hansen.
With her second release Don’t Call Her Larry, Vol. 2 Lawrence showcases her songwriting and arranging talents along with those spectacular vocals. Lebo’s third CD, Don’t Call Her Larry, Vol. 3, was released to rave reviews in June 2010.
Lawrence presents performances for intimate night clubs to the major concert stage at colleges and universities, blues/jazz/folk festivals, performing arts centers, corporate events and exclusive private parties. Educational and community outreach programs are available.
LUPA - (Jazz Vocalist/Left Field Pop) Italian-born/raised now living in the United Kingdom, Lupa (a.k.a. Antima Abbamonte) is a leading proponent of left-field pop (melodic psychedelica), with a heavy jazz influence. With an artistic career that began at the age of three, including classical piano lessons and modeling for the House of Vogue Children in Milan. Lupa’s 2005 debut album, House of Blue, is a collection of recordings of original compositions, including her imaginative re-work of Goodbye Porkpie Hat and Brucia La Terra (the love theme from the Godfather, sung in Sicilian). Lupa is currently writing new music and producing her next album, while performing throughout the UK/Europe. McCoy Artists Group is developing Lupa’s first tour of the USA for 2011-12.
LIN McPHILLIPS (Jazz Vocalist) San Francisco jazz singer Lin McPhillips throws elbows and says, “I'm here now” on My Shining Hour, her self-produced recording debut. McPhillips returns to performing after a nearly 20-year hiatus, without the attendant harrowing reasons for the absence. No, McPhillips took time off to care for herself and family during which she taught jazz singing. With life issues winding down, McPhillips entered the woodshed and emerged fearless.
Prior to Lin’s 20 year hiatus, she recorded numerous LPs with the Jazz group Solar Plexus, music that was a combination of Latin, Fusion, free form and Brazilian. Lin’s work was singled out by jazz critics. But it was Herb Wong that brought the group to Inner City Records, a New York based jazz label. Lin shared stages with the likes of Dave Brubeck, Mark Murphy, Richie Cole, Chet Baker, Vince Guaraldi, Al Jarreau, and Cal Tjader.
My Shining Hour is getting extensive airplay and rave reviews. Cashbox Magazine says, “The collected talent on this album is as diverse as the artform itself, and their shared efforts have resulted in a bona fide modern jazz gem… Lin McPhillips is a modern maestro whose passion for musical beauty is as limitless as the blue Pacific waters she sees out her bedroom window…”.
TYPHANIE MONIQUE Chicago-based Jazz Vocalist, with guitarist Neal Alger – JazzTimes magazine has described Typhanie’s vocal sound as a modern-day Sarah Vaughan with iridescent traces of Lena Horne. Others have compared her to Minnie Ripperton, Chaka Kahn, Diana Krall and Eykah Badu. Her recent CD, Yuletide Groove, with Neal Alger, was nominated for a Grammy Award in the first voting ballot in the category of Best Jazz Vocal Album. Typhanie was also listed in Scott Yanow’s recent book The Jazz Singers: The Ultimate Guide. She performs in duos or quartets with Neal. Outreach/educational programs are available.
ALISON RUBLE (Jazz Vocalist) Chicago-based jazz vocalist Alison Ruble is a dynamic performer. She has established a reputation in jazz circles as a versatile singer with a warm, engaging sound and a respected bandleader with acclaimed groups. Her style and repertoire give a generous nod to the classic jazz standards, but also incorporate more modern strains, producing a poignant blend of music that is at once familiar and surprising. Recent highlights include honoring legendary director Robert Altman with music from his movies at the Chicago Film Critics Awards and providing musical direction for the USO of Illinois' Star-Spangled Salute Gala and the Pritzker Military Library Liberty Gala. Since 2003, Alison serves as the Entertainment/Community Director for the USO of Illinois.
AMANDA SEDGWICK (Alto Saxophone/Composer/Band Leader) Born and educated in Sweden, Amanda has been heard in many places throughout the world. In 1996 she she released her first album, Volt (Caprice Records). During her career Amanda has played and toured with many of Sweden's most renowned musicians as well as with several international artists: Walter Booker, Philip Harper, Ingrid Jensen, Johnny O´Neal, Kermit Walker.
Between the years 2000 and 2003 Amanda lived and worked in the Netherlands, where she appeared at several major festivals. In 2004 Amanda released her second solo album on Touché Music, titled Reunion. The record features Philip Harper on trumpet and Amanda's compositions. Between the years 2004 and 2006 Amanda lived in Atlanta, GA, where she played and taught saxophone at Morehouse College.
Amanda now lives in New York City where she is finding her place in the music scene, with ambitions to tour the U.S. in the coming year. This coming October Amanda Sedgwick Quartet will be touring Sweden with trumpet player Jeremy Pelt. Amanda´s new album, delightness, (Touché Music) featuring Amanda Sedgwick Quartet and Septet, was released this summer.
