Amanda Sedgwick was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1970. She grew up in a musical family and started playing the piano and singing at an early age. When she picked up the alto saxophone at age 13, she fell in love with jazz and has been devoted to learning and exploring this art form ever since.

After graduating with a Masters in Music from the Royal University College of Music in Stockholm in 1995, Amanda made her record debut as a leader and composer on Swedish label Caprice Records. The record, “Volt”, features her writing for string quartet, woodwinds and jazz ensemble.

Amanda has released three records under her name. The second one was issued in 2004 and features Philip Harper on trumpet. Her latest CD “Delightness” was released in June 2009. It received highly favorable reviews in Scandinavian jazz magazines and was chosen as one of 25 best CD’s of 2009 by W. Royal Stokes of the Jazz Journalists Association. Amanda has played with Walter Booker, Philip Harper, Rolf Ericson, Hotep Galeta, Mike DiRubbo, Willie Jones III, Johnny O’Neal, Ingrid Jensen and Jeremy Pelt, as well as most of Sweden’s jazz elite.

After living and working in Sweden, the Netherlands and Atlanta, GA – where she was the woodwinds instructor at Morehouse College for two years – Amanda recently moved to New York City. She continues to perform in Europe, where her Swedish quartet recently toured with trumpeter Jeremy Pelt and was broadcasted on Swedish national radio. Next spring she will be touring Sweden with the renowned pianist and composer Freddie Redd.
